No, the fans really don't deserve anything. The deals being made between Saban and the actors are none of our business. And you can be honest while also remaining professional. A start would be not calling the offer a slap in the face. We're talking about a show that only exists because it steals half its footage from another show, the entire backbone of the series is that it's cheap as hell. I actually thought his response to the SMF thing was a lot better and mature than what Karan did. He was honest and told it like he felt/saw it. You say the fans don't deserve this but you fail to remember that NO one really knew where this guy was for years and now he's back and he just wants to fill people in on what's been going on. Its okay for him to do that. Stop being whiny. Anyways, I enjoyed the Q and A. I'm glad that he took that step and just wanted to be a normal human being outside of being known as the red ranger. I feel like ASJ has payed his dues and is just doing this to give back. I'm nothing but happy for him and whoever is lucky enough to see him at the cons.

Did Austin Saint John consider returning to Power Rangers during the Turbo season? Yeah, he was the Phantom Ranger. Didn't ya know?

If JDF acted more like this maybe there wouldn't be such a backlash against him. I'm glad he was honest about the pay, he has no obligation to keep that secret and it's unprofessional to low ball them so much in the first place. It's not that I dislike JDF, but I do understand why a lot of people do and he has a massive ego. Austin just seems like a normal guy and has nothing to prove.

A start would be not calling the offer a slap in the face. We're talking about a show that only exists because it steals half its footage from another show, the entire backbone of the series is that it's cheap as hell. But that's just it. There was no "deal". There was no "contract," or even any sort of NDA in place. It was an open letter sent to all the veteran Saban-era Ranger actors. There weren't any "closed door business deals" or anything of the sort with the people who didn't actually accept the invitation. The fans don't "deserve" anything, you're absolutely right. But Austin is well within his rights to let us know what's going on, especially since a LOT of people have been asking about him. He doesn't HAVE to answer, but he chose to. And he wasn't be unprofessional at all, he was just well within his rights. He clearly respects his time on the show, and he said he's open to returning, but obviously the deal has to be right. It's honest, and it does happen in show business all the time. The show is completely cheap, but the company producing it is a multi-billion dollar company. He knows the show will get along just fine with or without him, so if he's going to be involved, it's completely justified for him to want a more fair deal out of it. And at least he wasn't being a total diva about it, like Karan, who got super uppity and seemingly used every open opportunity she could to bash Saban and whatnot. Now THAT is unprofessional. Austin is handling it like David Yost did, answering the question, saying his piece about it, and then moving on.

I truly believe this is ASJ. As soon as he signed up for the Florida Supercon, I bought my ticket and planned a trip from KY for the sole purpose of meeting him. But, as more postings come across Facebook, I have to admit that something feels "funny."
He's gone from disappeared off the face of the earth (I thought not even Saban could get ahold of him. Now we're hearing he received a SMF letter?) to scheduling multiple conventions, and jumping right in to the social media sphere. I didn't think anything was really odd until today when he started talking about doing international conventions. It just all seems so fast.
The audio clips certainly sound like him, a tired ASJ, which would of course mesh with what we know he has been up to, but voices can be imitated. He's been saying the things the fans want to hear (or already knew) about JDF and Saban. Like I said, I really do think this is ASJ. But, there is a corner of my mind that will not be shocked if this turns out to be an elaborate hoax (yes, I use that phrase intentionally, for the folks that were around for PMC1).

He's being repped by the same booking company that reps other Rangers. If they weren't able to confirm that it was him, then they wouldn't be booking him at conventions.

I don't see how anyone with ears can even possibly think this isn't him.
If it isn't than Saban needs to hire this man for voice work ASAP and he will go on to have a better career than Bryan Cranston.

Yeah, its one thing to be able to mimic a few lines or catch phrases, I've heard a couple of fans do a great job of that in fact, but you can't get on a mic and say sentence after sentence sounding exactly like someone.

Austin and the others didn't walk off set. They were simply not invited back after they filmed their contracted episodes because of whatever they were trying to negotiate to renew.

Austin and the others didn't walk off set. They were simply not invited back after they filmed their contracted episodes because of whatever they were trying to negotiate to renew. I always thought that they were locked into a 5 year deal and they were kicked off once they refused to sign on for the movie without some type of renegotiation? Anyway, I agree with most that he was within his right, both a person and professional - even though even if he wasn't, the man hasn't acted in years, a bit unfair to hold him to such scrutiny. As others have pointed out, he was solicited with a generic email, when Saban is still making money off of them. For what it's worth, I think Saban Brands made a dumb move not trying harder to get back the original cast. It's the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 20th Anniversary, and they now know that the Legacy Brand is pretty strong. If they were smart, they'd pay the original actors a fair price, get some good publicity, and have them help market the Legacy line a little more. Each year they could offer the same deal to whatever cast is present. I mean, I was in a Toys R Us the other day and there were kids with their dad searching for Legacy items. I cannot remember the last time I've seen any kid give more than a passing "I want it" for Power Rangers. The kids were telling me about the items they were looking for - they were clearly consuming MMPR somewhere (DVDs, Netflix, does Teletoon Retro still play it?). Trying to bring the brand better in focus for today's market would make a lot of sense, and as much as Tommy is still revered, yes, he's shunned by many on here, but he'll eventually give a shout or something and they'll love him again, most casual 20-30 somethings don't care enough to hold a negative opinion. Anyway, JDF isn't enough to bring Power Rangers back to mainstream, and apparently neither is the SMF brand. Still, Saban Brands has another chance with Dino Charge. Hope they can actually invest, the what, the $50 000-$100 000 to get some of then original cast back for an episode. I don't know the exact amount, but I imagine most would do a weekend of work for airfare, accommodations, a cheque for 10 grand, and most importantly, proper acknowledgement from a brand that was built on their work. Power Rangers was fortunate to come around the time it did, the stars aligned for it, and apart of its magic was because of those kids.

Saban raided their own stashes, and most likely the stashes of any of the MMPR Prod. Crew they're in contact with. And props would also be something Toei could have sent over. The only reason the suits aren't used (which they do have for reference & pattern making) is because of the size differences.

Honesly, I think the best thing for Austin St. John, or anybody from MMPR these days, is to just leave their issues with Saban alone...

Honesly, I think the best thing for Austin St. John, or anybody from MMPR these days, is to just leave their issues with Saban alone... I think there's a difference. There are actors who are like "This is what happened, I didn't like it. I thought it was pretty shitty." And actors who berate and bitch and moan despite the only reason they're on the con circuit, and obviously making at least decent money, at it is because of their time with Saban.
