I think "Saved By The Bell" is still popular today, because it appeals to many age groups, and different audiences. No matter who you are, you can enjoy SBTB.
In the U.S., SBTB is extremely popular to this date, because most teenagers, and 20 year olds grew up with the show. SBTB is practically a huge part of our lives that we can't get tired of.
The SBTB gang are the friends that most people never had. Although we have many close friends in real life, they're not exactly, Zack, Slater, and Screech.
The girls are the girlfriends you always wanted. That's why the character of Kelly Kapowski will always represent the pre-puberty, and beyond puberty lives of many American men-- just like what Mary Ann and Ginger from "Gilligan's Island" did. Jessie is the smart, yet hot girl that you wanted to study with . And Lisa was the cool "sista" that knew what was up, always kept you looking in-style, and she was the girl you always had an attraction to, but never had a chance in hell with her. LOL.
So we can no longer say, "they are the friends we never had"-- because although there are just characters inside the TV, they will always be there for us, and they will never change-- because THEY ARE YOUR FRIENDS.
It's weird how a little Saturday morning sitcom can have such an impact on a whole generation.
