People are constantly trying to come up with reasons for why Seinfeld was the best sitcom ever, or why it was so originally funny. Above all conspiracy theories stands only one simple fact: Jerry & Larry are comedians. Therefore, they're used to work in front of an audience. Therefore, they get immediate, genuine responses regarding their material. Therefore, they KNOW what's funny. Most people who write sitcoms, however, have absolutely NO IDEA what's funny. They only THINK they know what's funny from taking a cursory scriptwriting course. The result is, of course, Friends.

There are many sitcoms that were originated by comedians. Most, in fact.

My belief, for the reason why Sein is the greatest sitcome ever, is because of the plain and simple reason that most people could relate to the comedy. At least in the earlier seasons. Sein came around when a shit load of "family" comedies were around....Sein represented something different....something that a lot of people could say "yeah that happened to me!"

That's a huge aspect of the show, true. But what other sitcoms were created by comedians, other than the bland Cosby Show? Most sitcoms were created by comedians? I think not, & the boring family comedies you mentioned sure weren't.

the best part of seinfeld was that there was never a serious moment.

but that kind of thing really goes away in seasons 6 7 8 9, and the show is still great.

I don't think Jerry being a comedian is what made the show what it is. It was a new approach to a sitcom, though, and that's why I like that decision. And as for Larry David, remember, he was a failed comedian. Didn't make it as a stand-up, which is why he was so good for the show. His comedy was unconventional, and didn't work well with audiences. But it worked as a sitcom, because it was something nobody had done before.
