Have we had a topic about this? It's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to do.

I wonder if I'll ever live to meet a fan whose favourite season is one or nine.

9 i could believe - i wouldn't agree with them, but i'm sure that there are alot of people who only got into the show at the end of the run, for whom the earlier episodes probably seem a little slow because of the lack of whackiness.
but i don't believe that there is 1 single person in the entire world whose favourite season is 1

Maybe Jerry's favourite season is one? But yeah, I think my sister's favourite season is nine. Mine used to be eight.

Hmm, that'll do. I really like Season 9 (obviously not as much as 5, 7, 6, 4 but you know what I mean), it's not as bad as people make out.
Feel bad putting Season 2 so low as some of my favourite episodes are in it (The Revenge, The Phone Message, The Chinese Restaurant) but there you go.

Maybe Jerry's favourite season is one? But yeah, I think my sister's favourite season is nine. Mine used to be eight. I think Jerry said something like "it's like watching a school play" at the end of the commentary for The Stakeout I honestly don't think it's possible to enjoy season nine without the knowledge of the previous seasons. You have to be familiar with the characters. I remember that before I became a fan of the show I tried watching The Betrayal, The Strongbox & The Finale & I just couldn't see what all the fuss is about. The best way to enjoy Seinfeld is to watch the episodes in the order they were produced: that's how Jerry & Larry planned it to be.

I kinda think the opposite, that it's knowledge of the previous seasons that won't let me enjoy season 9. I mean george used to be such a complex character ("a woman who hates me this much, only comes along once in a lifetime", or when susan dumps him and he's happy, and then he laments it, and as soon as she takes him back he wants out again) and he would often really surprise me with his reaction to a particular situation (case in point: "my boys can swim!") and alot of the humour came from that - but in season 9 you ALWAYS know how he's going to react (i.e. he's gonna get angry and shout alot), cos he's become like a 2-d cartoon character of his former self. and i have to say it, i much prefer the Elaine of seaons 1-6, because alot of the humour of the group is that she gets no special dispensations for being a woman, the same rules apply for her as the boys and it's great, like for example in "the contest". if they had made "the contest" in season 9, she probably would have heard the idea for the contest, said "you guys are all a bunch of losers" and left the coffee shop. Meh, it doesn't make for good comedy if you ask me. ok, jerry never changes much, and he was never a great actor (but funny? yes, very) but in the earlier seasons i do get the impression that he was working hard to be believable and natural, in season nine he seems to be mugging and coasting his way through it. he's still funny, but i don't have the impression that he's working so hard. and kramer, well, ok, kramer is still kramer, and michael richards still does an excellent job, but most of his stories don't make sense. anyway, blah blah blah, nothing new in all of this i know, but i just wanted to say that if i HADN'T seen the previous seasons, i have the impression that i might have enjoyed season 9 much more, cos i could have just enjoyed the silliness and frivolity of it. so there you go.
