Boy Meets World is a series about the everyday life lessons of Cory Matthews, a kid from suburban Philadelphia who grows up from a young boy to a married man. The show aired for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000 on ABC, part of the networks TGIF lineup. Reruns are now played at 6 a.m. (central time) on ABC Family.
This is another 90's show that I didn't get into when it first aired. I actually didn't know about the show until I stumbled upon it on the Disney Channel at 1 a.m. a few summers ago, probably around 2002.
Boy Meets World will never get old to me. No, it didn’t have the best ratings, but for me Boy Meets World was childhood.
It helped that the cast was so loveable too. Cory Matthews was the backbone of the show. His best friend was Shawn Hunter who lived in a trailer park and was your typical bad boy. Eric Matthews was the big brother who was smart the first season and then seemed to get stupider as the show went on. Eric was Topanga Lawrence’s original love interest, before she fell for Cory. Mr. Feeny was their teacher, all seven seasons and always had valuable advice whenever it was needed.
What sets Boy Meets World apart from its fellow sitcoms is that it wasn’t above laughing at itself. Even after all the jokes, Boy Meets World featured true moments of tenderness.
In the end, Cory marries Topanga and all of the kids move to New York – Cory realizes that the boy has finally met the world. It was nice to know that somewhere best friends are forever, the parents always have the answers, and Mr. Feeny’s only a picket fence away.

Boy Meets World was one of the few sitcoms I got addicted to in my middle school/junior high years. I'd seen a few episodes before that on TGIF, but when it began airing on Disney I rediscovered it and pretty much watched it through it's run on the Disney Channel.
Such a great show, it had a little of everything, plus a really good cast. I liked just about every character to some extent, and I remembered tearing up when Shawn's dad died. But adding actors like Matthew Lawrence and Maitland Ward during the last few seasons were great pickups, and didn't seem like a desperate attempt to bring ratings up.
It's sad that the only time it's now is at 6am, where morons and earlybirds reside.

Of course I’ve seen Boy Meets World and of course, I love it. Definitely one of the best shows out of the nineties, as it had everything. It had slapstick, situational, sitcom and a bit of stand-up humor. The humor even got intelligent at times and if there’s ever a way to impress me, it’s to put on smarty-pants when smarty-pants aren’t completely necessary. It really stands up on it’s own and while it isn’t as good as the behemoth known as Friends, I can probably say I like it better. It had a stereotype for everyone. The smarty-pants slacker, Cory. The smarty-pants slacker’s pretty-boy with edginess best friend, Shawn. Or the smarty-pants slackers goofy and somewhat slow on the uptake big brother, Eric. Personally, I identify with Topanga.
No. No I don’t! Eric is what I meant to say, but it does lead me neatly into her character. Sure she had it in for Eric to begin with (awwwww yeah. Everyone loves a big brother. Yes, that was an extremely creepy sentence), but through nearly seven seasons of fantastic writing she actually reasonably falls for Cory (fucking lucky bastard). Reasonably? That’s unheard of and because of it, really adds to the show as it tells us that Boy Meets World wasn’t afraid to actually get serious and have real, relatable drama instead of another overused joke. And for a show aimed towards teenagers and young adults, that’s applaudable. Then there’s the noble wiseman of the series, Mr. Feeney. Forgetting the absurd last name, he was the veteran of life and despite being a principal for the high school most of the gang attended, managed to become their friend and probably one of the most well-rounded characters of the series.
But he never ran away with it, as Boy Meets World was one of those shows whose entire cast had it going on. Which - again - is nice to see in a day and age like the nineties. I loved it on TGIF as a kid and I like it even more now as an adult and am planning on grabbing season six next week and seven whenever it’s released. It’s a fantastic show about the life of a young man that just so happens to be hilarious, lovable and occasionally heartwarming. It’s not often you get shows like Boy Meets World and so when we do get them, we have to enjoy them. Especially when the main character is named Cornelius. That just cements its badassery.

I didn't get into this show until the early 2000's when I watched it on ABC Family during the afternoon. It never appealed to me, even on ABC family, but during the summer, there was nothing else on TV at 1 O'Clock (I even remember what time it was on haha). After watching it for a few weeks, I loved it. I can't get enough of the show. I own the first 3 seasons on DVD and will eventually get the 4th. The show is fantastic. Season 1 isn't as good as the rest, but once Cory and his friends get to High School and they realize that Topanga shouldn't be completely crazy, the show took off. Seasons 2 and 3 are fantastic. The show did go downhill later in the series. I felt that Rachel, the redhead who lived with Eric and Jack, was a completely unnecessary character. I really liked the show, and while was funny, the best part about the show was that it had drama in it as well. It wasn't afraid to be serious. Mr. Feeny might be the best teacher I have ever seen on television. I'm so glad that I eventually gave this show a chance.

I still watch this on ABCFamily at 7 a.m. I love this show I had several favorites in the 90's but I always loved this show even my Mom did. Funny funny funny!! There's nothing not to love. Topanga was always sooo pretty even as a little weird girl. laugh.gif Feeny though gave great valuable life lessons and even though he disguised his real feelings you knew he cared about them even if he wanted to whack them. There were episodes that made me laugh and cry and alot was realistic. I can't help but love Corey and Shawn because they had a REAL friendship through all trials and tribulations. I will always watch this and hope my kids will get to someday.

I honestly had no idea this comes on at 6 in the morning on the ABC Family channel. Definitely something to remember at a later time. I remember watching this show when I was able too. And I have to say, it's amongst one of the better shows of the 90's. The ending *only seen on Youtube unfortunately* Kind of makes me want to cry because of it well, ending. Some seriously great moments on the show.
Eric at one point calling himself 'Plays With Squirrels' is amusing as can be.

I loved that show is a kid! It was one of the few shows on Disney that I really enjoyed watching. I was really sad when it ended but it had to end sometime. I loved Tapanga! I used to watch it when ABC would show re-runs of the show.

Here's a little known fact: The episode "If You Can't Be with the One You Love..." was banned from ever airing on the Disney Channel because of teen drinking. Cory drinks whiskey in the episode to forget about Topanga and gets Shawn to join in. This episode is currently airing on ABC Family.
The only other Boy Meets World episode ever banned from television was the episode "Prom-ises, Prom-ises". The episode was also banned from ever airing on the Disney Channel because the episode talks about premarital sex. Cory purchases a hotel room in hopes of sleeping with Topanga on Prom night. This episode will air on ABC Family at 3:30 p.m. CST tomorrow.

That is interesting. Right after I read your post bro, I switched over so I could watch the show. I really enjoyed the show when it originally aired. I don't know when I got into the show but I am pretty sure I have seen all the episodes just by watching the reruns. I will say I prefer to watch the episodes when they are older. I guess I can relate to it more. They always made this show teach a message but it didn't get too sappy. It is one of the few sitcoms that I can watch over and over again. Now, I look forward to seeing Girl Meets World.

Here is some good news for the night owls out there. ABC Family has decided to add Boy Meets World as a filler show to their weeknight lineup. Last night the show aired from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. (CST). They will continue airing the series this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday during the same time slot. Next week, the show will also air at the same time on Monday, Thursday, and Friday.
It is unknown if Boy Meets World will become a permanent addition to the weeknight lineup sometime later or not, but you can at least enjoy this little slice of nostalgia the next two weeks. The episodes are actually airing in order too, so you won't have to worry about seeing the same episodes each night.
