One of the all time great sitcoms The TV series is one of the few sitcoms that is able to blend both comedy and drama, and still remain one of the funniest shows on TV. An episode comes to mind where Roseanne's father dies. The episode consists of Roseanne mourning over her father and reconsidering her feelings towards him, yet the episode still kept its comic charm. I usually can't stand a sitcom when it tries to be a drama. This series was always able to slip in a joke at the right time keeping even the most dramatic episodes funny. "Roseanne" wasn't like most sitcoms, say "Friends" for example. Roseanne isn't made up of perfect looking people who just goof off and seem to have an endless supply of money. The basis of this show had realistic characters with realistic problems. A show the common person could relate to. People may criticize Roseanne by saying it wasn't funny the last 3 or 4 seasons. This is true but very few shows that were on TV for more than 6 years were able to keep their soul throughout.

Fabulously funny! Also great since I love GENERAL HOSPITAL! Oh my GOD! At the very end when Genie Francis and Tony Geary turned around it was LUKE AND LAURA! Oh my GOD! I was screaming with the rest of the crowd! Roseanne and John Goodman were SO hilarious with Genie and Tony, this was fabulous! And perfect timing since Genie and Tony had just come home to General Hospital and Roseanne and Arnold guest starred on that! Wow! It was a great episode all together but that was such a great surprise at the end! Wow!

One of the best. Roseanne will hopefully be remembered as one of the best TV series. Roseanne started in 1988 and was great. It had impeccable storylines to start off with and a perfect cast, including John Goodman. As time grew on the show started to grow stale. It wasn't as entertaining as it used to be. That is why Roseanne stopped in 1997.

Only good with lecy Goranson as Becky I only really liked the really really old episodes. I was so used to lecy that when she left the show i just couldn't get into it. It seems like the story was different and they weren't as funny. I wouldn't mind having Roseanne and Dan as my parents, even if they were poor. they make me laugh so hard. I still watch it on TBS when they have lecy on. I also like the early Halloween episodes. probably because I'm a big halloween horror fanatic. I also like the one where darlene had to write and read the poem out loud to the parents. I wonder who actually wrote it. it was a cool poem. that and the tornado episode

Pardon? ?? This show is very good, but oddly enough there are so many confusions allong the way you just have to take no info in. For instance the first D.J. was okay, why did they change him? and why is it when we first meet David his name is Kevin? and the final episode of the show Roseanne admits to have made the whole life(series) up. And why does Bev turn gay, and why does she spend all her time with Leon and Scott? It is hard to beleive that Nana Mary slept with Picasso and smoked dubies with Harlem punks! The character of Becky No.1 at least had acting skills, I'm Canadian too, but at least the first Becky had a character, the rebellious, snotty, slaving Becky. The new one just milks it.

too funny for words I've been watching "Roseanne" since the very first episode, and was immediately hooked. I am a devoted fan of the series, until they won the lottery. For some reason, I lost interest after that. It seemed to take away from the show itself. The Conners, in attempting not to let all that money change them, changed a great deal, almost beyond recognition. Everything became too serious. It may sound sadistic, but I enjoyed the show far more when the Conners had to constantly struggle to make ends meet. I believe "Roseanne" to be by far the most realistic and down-to-earth sitcom ever to be aired. True, there were some things about the character Roseanne that I didn't like; for instance, I thought she was at times mean and insensitive towards others, but she also had her soft spots. One reason I enjoyed the show so much was because of the originality in the lines the characters were given. One never knew what was going to come out of Roseanne's mouth next. I liked Jackie immensely until she had a baby. After that, she turned into a neurotic mess. I liked Darlene as well, but I couldn't stand the way she treated David. Dan was my second favorite person in the series. I loved the way he tolerated his wife's quirks, and often found them endearing. But that doesn't mean that, deep down, he wasn't secretly a little terrified of her. People often ridicule me for liking this show so much. Their reasoning is, why should I watch a show by a woman who leads such a hedonistic and controversial private life? My brother was shocked when I told him that I watch "Roseanne" faithfully. His question was, "You watch 'Roseanne', a God-fearing woman like you?" My answer is to any and all, "Who cares what she does with her private life?" She's given me more laughs than all the other shows I watch put together, and anyone who can do that, can't be all bad. And I'm sure there is more than one person who is reading this who's thinking, "That really doesn't say much for you, does it?" I think one reason I enjoyed the show is because the character Roseanne (her positive aspects) is everything I wish I was; strong, independent, and not afraid to stand up for herself, a person who cares little or nothing for what other people think of her. I don't think it's right to get into a socio-political discussion of the show and subject it to dissection. It takes all the enjoyment out of it. So enjoy!!!! On a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a 10.

Sort of a "working class hand book!" I can't express enough how much I love this show. The people were real, the issues were real, and any show that can look at a struggling middle class family during the late '90s, and make you laugh at a time when a lot of people were hurting, I think should get a Nobel Prize.
Roseanne Conner was every mother who stuck the marriage out through thick and thin, Dan was the dad who was doing the best he could. And the kids,well...., they were normal kids. To me the show was a breath of fresh air, because it looked at issues honestly, and again, a lot of people were in the same boat as the Conners, so the working class really bonded with them, more, or less saying "..you know, if they can get through this, so can I".
My first child was born almost on the day 'Roseanne' came out, and now is a teenager. Today, I often think of this show as kind of a reference to parenting, and I have also found out, so do a lot of people I know. Let's face it , the "Bradys" were the family we all wanted, the "Conners" were the family we were!
The show began to lose its appeal for me after about the fifth season because it began to miss the point. It seemed to me (and maybe I'm wrong) to be more of an ego trip for Rosanne then anything else. The importance seemed to shift to "pushing the envelope", then a loving middle class family. I do respect Roseanne for standing up for herself, but I really believed she carried it too far. However, a woman stood up to the big shots of Hollywood, and won, so you got to give her that. Sadly, the show the working poor saw as a kind of hand book of life, turned into a real mess, especially the last two seasons.

Best sitcom ever... This sitcom has been the best show whos ever been on TV. I think you either love of hate this show, and I gotta say that i LOVED it!! It was so funny, the cast was great, and best of all it was so different from all the other sitcoms. The jokes were great and provoking, and Roseanne and the rest of the crew had the guts to do and say somethings on TV that no other show would ever do! Besides Sara Gilbert is great

one of the best shows Roseanne has to be one of the best sitcoms and tv shows of all time lasting that long and staying good for most of the run, I was very disappointed toward the end of the series and then to find out it was all a lie really left a bitter taste in my mouth, I didn't like the ending at all. Roseanne succeeded because most american families could relate so well with the Conner family and what they dealt with every episode. I like many fans continue to watch the reruns on cable and enjoy those very much especially the early seasons. I just wished it would have had a better ending of the series. I liked the whole family and the actors played those roles so well, my favorites were Martin Mull and Fred Willard they were so funny as the life partners.

Best TV Sitcom EVER!!!!!!! I absolutely love this show! It's so hilarious. I have become so attached to this show, i feel like i'm a part of the Connor family. Rosanne has to be the coolest mom out there! How can people say her voice is annoying? I love it! And she has the best jokes! Dan is awesome! I was so sad on the last episode that he died!! But i liked the ending, but not a lot of other people did. It made up for all those tiring fantasies, and it was so clever. Anyway...Jackie was a great sister for Roseanne, they have a real close bond and Jackie's facial expressions were hilarious. Becky, I prefer Lecy Goranson, i just like originals better and Sara Chalke seemed to fake. Darlene was great but I remember this one episode in the later seasons when she got back from college, she kept making fun of her family and it was getting old and annoying. DJ was so cute in the earlier seasons and in the last season he is so hot! and David, Mark, Mary, Bev, and everyone else was great. And Crystal was cute as the innocent one. Why did she leave?! And I liked Arnie! Why did Roseanne and Tom have to get a divorce?! It's so hard to pick a favourite episode cause there all funny! I like the one where Roseanne, Dan, and Jackie smoke the pot. lol. that was good. okay that's about all! So, in conclusion, thank God for reruns!!!!!

Realistic I do like Roseanne because it seems more realistic than the junk that is on TV today - take Friends for example - a bunch of whiny New Yorkers who never to have to worry about real problems. Roseanne gives us something different. I think a lot of people can relate to this show because it caters to your typical American - not wealthy, lives in a small town, has a family, trying to make it. I do think the last couple of seasons were ridiculous (the lottery subplot) but I guess those were done for a reason due to the actress, Roseanne.
10/10 as for as sitcoms go.

One of if not the best sitcom of the 90's 10/10 I have been watching Roseanne since the early 90's and I still cannot get enough of it. The humour of Roseanne and all the characters always gets me. It seemed that every episode had it's hilarious parts. One of the reasons I enjoy Roseanne so much is it's reality it's got. It's probably the most real sitcom ever created which is why it was so popular. A couple with 3 kids in a small Illinois town always trying to make ends meet no matter what challenges they are faced with. They have one daughter that drops out of high school and marries and another who ends up getting pregnant before she hits 20 and marries also. Those things happen to real families and Roseanne made it happen to the t.v family for the first time. Roseanne tackled all the issues other tv shows wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole such as homosexuality, abuse, and of course sex and birth control. These were all recurring topics. I love Roseanne and still watch the re-runs whenever I can. I always thought it was a shame the series had to go off. Seasons 1-6 were the best but after that it got weird. It stopped being about the family and more about other stuff. The lottery is what killed the show however I found the ending weird but yet interesting. Roseanne is and will always be one of the most crowning achievements in Prime time T.V. Hats off to the team ar Carsey and Werner that created the show. You truly have a masterpiece.

Roseanne I think the best thing about "Roseanne" is that everyone can relate to a character because they are so normal. my younger sister is just like Darlene (sarcastic) and i have been told that im like Becky (a complete ditz) i think that Sarah Chalke is a better actress than Lecy Goranson (and she looks older than 12!) but i think that they both were good. my favourite episode is when becky gets suspended for flicking off in the class photo, how tempting is it to do that when your stood there waiting for it to be taken?

awesome show "Roseanne" is an awesome show. Her sarcastic comments are hilarious. I also love Darlene's comments. Although I think Laurie Metcalf over does it sometimes with her part as Jackie. I watch the show everyday. I've seen the very last episode though and it kind of confused me.
