Darlene was Hilarious I really liked this show. I like the first couple seasons when Darlene and Becky were young because i loved when they fought. Darlene was hilarious when she was younger and i loved when she fought with Becky, I dont like the last couple seasons though because Darlene wasnt funny at all and I think D.J should of been writed off the show the first year because he was pointless on the show because u hardley knew he was part of the family and he wasnt funny either. I liked Jackie alot she was really funny but Dan was mean all the time and i didnt like his personality on the show, But besides all that it was a good family show and it taught viewers how to stay strong when your not the wealthiest family. I give it an 8 out of a 10.

Great and controversial show I grew up watching this show and to this day it remains my favorite show of all time. No show can live up to "Roseanne". The show during it's run remained in the top 10 and usually the top 5. Except for season 8, but still remained in the top 20. Then you had season 9 not the greatest season which is why it dropped in the 30's that season. The show still remains a ratings champion which is why it remains in syndication not only in the U.S. but hundreds of other countries. For instance when nick at nite had there week long marathon of Roseanne. Throughout that week 30 million viewers saw the show. An average of about 1 million viewers an episode. Which is extremely well for a show on cable.

Just great "Roseanne" is a milestone in TV sitcoms. It shows a lower class family realistically and the problems and issues they face. It dealt with (for the time) risky issues that you didn't see on TV often. I still remember quite a stir when two separate episodes dealt with one of the girls "becoming" a woman and the son of the family discovering how to "pleasure" himself. Also it had episodes dealing with abortion, gay characters, alcoholism, drug abuse, premarital sex, workplace and sexual harassment, how to deal with elderly parents... None of the characters were squeaky clean or perfect...they all had huge flaws and faults. But all of this was done with realism, great acting and a strong (if sometimes caustic) sense of humor. You saw the characters grow and change over the course of the 9 years it was on the air. It totally fell apart during the last season (egos were going out of control on the set) and ended horribly but the previous eight seasons were just fantastic. And the Halloween episodes were among the funniest ever done for a TV series. Just great all around. If you've never seen it, catch an episode or two--it's worth the effort.

Was good in the beginning This show was so funny and easy to relate to in the early seasons. Then, Tom Arnold came, along with Roseanne's plastic surgery, and everything was ruined. The Connors won the lottery. I'm not making this up. The Connors won the lottery and the thing that made this show special (the fact that these were blue collar people) was lost forever.

Good Show, Great Plot, Decent Characters, Nice Acting This show has to be one of the alltime best Television shows out there. It was pretty much realistic to most average families. I thought Laurie Metcalf was easy on the eyes in the early episodes, so that added to the experience. The cast did pretty good at the acting portions and the stories were pretty well written for what it was. They did a decent job at developing characters although I didn't like the way they made Darlene, and the Part about Dan "cheating" in the later episodes was awful, it just did not seem in Dan's character to cheat even if he didn't share his bed with her. David was some what annoying but I guess thats his character. The frequent Becky switching was annoying, Lecy Goranson was the best Becky for the job honestly, Sarah Chalke did decent but just wasn't as good at Lecy IMO.
It was very nicely done for about 4 to 5 years and 1 Sara Gilbert nose job, then it started getting bad, and finally when Roseanne& Co. Won the lottery it just took all the charm the show still had away and made it a crap heap *see Terrorist on Train Episode Rosambo sp?* All in all a Decent show with a some what fantastic ending. I'll probably buy the DvD Seasons if they should come out in the Future.
Most of the cast now is pretty burnt out in the Acting Careers, save for Goodman. The rest pretty much do B movies and make T.V. Guest appearences from time to time. It's surprising that most of the Guest Stars on this show went on to be Big Names in the Holly Wood Scene, Too bad Roseannes Domestic Goddess Cooking Show bombed otherwise should it have been created might have been funny to see her antics in the Kitchen even though she was not in Conner Character.

One of the best sitcoms from the 90s I remember watching this show every Tuesday evening at 9:00 on ABC when I was younger. I then stopped watching it a few years before it went off the air, because I didn't like how the characters changed. In watching the repeats now shown on Nick at Nite, I am completely hooked on this show and now think it was one of the best. It portrayed lower-middle class people and how things really are (for the most part) in their lives. Most of the characters are a riot, especially Jackie and Roseanne's mother (Estelle Parsons). I also must add my opinion about the last season, without giving spoilers. If you are a somewhat fan or even a true fan, the last season of the show may seem very strange (this is when the Conners win the lottery), and may even turn you away from the show itself. However, the series finale episode will make you understand why the last season was so different, and without being biased, probably was one of the most creative and strongest endings to a TV series I ever seen.

I Love this show!"Roseanne" is hilarious! -I was born when this show debuted, but I remember seeing it when it was still on in the 90s, I didn't know how funny it was. Then I started watching it on TBS my freshmen year after school, I immediately loved it! Its not on TBS anymore for some reason I wish they'd bring it back. However, it recently came to Nick@Nite, so that's when I watch it at 11 and 11-30PM.
-As I watch the episodes, I remember seeing them when they were on. Now, I am not one who laughs at just anything, it takes a lot for me to genuinely laugh at something. "Roseanne" is hilarious though. The episode when they get high is hysterical and when Jackie and Roseanne go to the spa (after having won the lottery), wow just thinking about it, I was in tears. What I like about it is that it was REAL, and at times vulgar and trashy (in a good way), not sugar coated like many shows are. Roseanne is a great comedian and I love how she doesn't care at all what other people think.
-I think that the chemistry on this show was awesome, Roseanne and Dan were such a REAL couple. However, I didn't like how in the last season, Dan "cheats" on Roseanne, from observing and getting to know his character after 9 seasons, it was just hard to really accept. I don't think that after all the two had been through, that he could actually do that to Roseanne, it just DID NOT fit his character at all, but sadly this is when the show was getting stale for a lot of people, which I hate to say.
-I loved how there were little deliberate jokes/spoofs, if you will on the show. For example, in the tax refund episode early in the run ('89/'90), whenever they said the word "AUDIT" you would hear dramatic music "DUN...DUN...DUN!", and they would notice it and look for the sound! HILARIOUS! Also, later on in the Disney Land episode ('95/'96) when Sarah Chalke comes back again replacing Lecy Goranson yet again, and Roseanne remarks "See, aren't you glad you're here this week?!" (then an announcer comes on and everyone freezes, then it says ATTENTION: The role of becky originally played by Lecy Goranson, then by Sarah Chalke, then again by Lecy Goranson, will be played this evening by Sarah Chalke::" Clever and hilarious, when you poke fun at your own show for obvious reasons such as FREQUENT cast changes that's definitely 'gonna' get laughs.
-Of course, there are far too many hilarious scenes that I've seen to list here, but you get the idea. As for my favorite episodes...Wow that's a hard one...uhm, the one where Roseanne blows up the house is definitely up there, the one when they go to the spa and the one when Jackie and Roseanne are talking about Edgar (roseanne's love interest during the Welman deal episode) oh yeah and of course the "lost episode" spoofing the typical 1950s nuclear family, too funny!...and many more. I can watch "Roseanne" episodes over and over again and still laugh, that says something about a sitcom.
-I can't wait until this show comes out on DVD, I am definitely getting it to have and enjoy for years to come. I wish Roseanne would get another sitcom deal going, she's still young and funny, I would love to see her in primetime again!

BEST SITCOM OF ALL TIME There is really no way to explian how this show was one of the best of all time. Roseanne is a genius, not only was the show one of the funniest on T.V. EVER! It also touched your heart. That's what made this show so good. One episode could make you laugh til you cried, for example the episode titled P.M.S. I Love You. Then another could make you cry a good example of that is the episode when Roseanne's father passed and she realized there was so much she wanted to ask him, but it was too late. Something we all can relate to. And that's what made this show great. We all could relate to the Conner's. It was the most believable family on T.V. The way they talked to one another, the way the house looked, the clothes they wore, all these things made the show believable. Now alot of people found the last season a little bizarre, and I agree it was not the best, but the final episode made up for it. The last episode was by far the best series finale ever, forget Friends and Seinfeld Roseanne wiped the floor with both of them. It was genius the way the show was explained after all those years. If that episode doesn't make you cry and love Roseanne and the show then you have no heart, if you watch it and don't understand it, watch it again. It takes a few times viewing it to understand. But Roseanne will always hold a special place in my heart since for the many years the show was on through my teens I always enjoyed it, I am gay and at that time it was the only show that really included gay characters in it's cast. Which really means alot when your 15 and gay. So thanks Roseanne!!
BTW, One of the best parts of the series in the final episode is when Roseanne gets up from her desk and goes to the living room all alone and sits on the sofa one last time, the meaning in that scene is so heart breaking because in one of the first seasons Roseanne tells Dan that she fears being left alone, and now she was. That shows the writing genius behind the show.
I miss you Roseanne please come back to Primetime TV!! For now I'll settle for my daily dose on Oxygen.

Groundbreaking Sitcom Roseanne is the funniest sitcom I have ever seen. I've just started watching it within the last year, and I have became hooked on it. Unlike a lot of other sitcoms, Roseanne is no holds barred. How many other 90's sitcoms have you seen that talked about erections and other sex problems. Roseanne is hilarious and keeps me laughing throughout the show.
The actors in this show were all brilliant. I preferred Lecy Goranson as Becky to Sarah Chalke. Sarah Chalke got annoying after awhile. BUt I really loved the interactions between brothers Mark, David and Darlene. THese wear all great actors/actress. Roseanne and Dan were also the cutest couple ever!!
I recommend everyone to watch this show

The show I loved the show. Its so funny. I do wish the last ep. was different. I mean Becky and David, NO! Becky and Mark is rite and Darlene and David are perfect together too. She should not have change that. It was really sad to at the end when you found out that Dan was really dead. I actually cried a lil. But the thing that made me mad the Most is the Mark, Becky, David, and Darlene thing. I mean could you think of Darlene and Mark together No It does not seem rite. Darlene and David Match made in Heaven and Becky and Mark perfect. and I feel bad That Dan died Because one what she said By he Is the first and Last thing she thinks of and Jerry has to grow up with out his dad. I know a lot of People may not agree with me. I am just saying what I think. But I love watching the shows re-runs.

The one true show about real family life 10/10 "Roseanne" was the show that actually illustrated real family life. I grew up watching this show because it allowed me to realize that the hard parts in my life didn't mean that I had to be upset. I learned that I could laugh at things, which makes life a lot easier. This show exhibited Roseanne's comedic genius. Everyone knows that she was someone that was hard to work for. But, she also helped to make shows about situations that other shows were afraid to tackle. She wasn't afraid to talk about gay/lesbian relationships, religion, smoking, drinking, pregnancies, death, poverty, etc. What other show did the same? John Goodman, who played the character of Dan, was the perfect partner for the character for Roseanne. In my mind, Dan was like my own father. Dan was funny, caring, and hardworking. Jackie was the kooky sister that added a little spice to the mix. However, my favorite character on this show was Darlene. The continuous sarcasm was perfect for the t.v. family. The rest of the cast (Becky (s), David, Mark, D.J., Fred, Beverly, Leon, etc...) was perfectly casted. Everyone should watch this show. This would be a way that people could see a different lifestyle that some people have to deal with everyday of their lives.

Very, very special. "Roseanne" is a very special program, as it showed people as they really are, not prefabricated, starched and pressed, cookie-cutter characters (such as "The Brady Bunch," for example.)
The creators of this show delightfully smashed through stereotypes and made the show a joy to watch. The fact that both lead actors are heavier than most TV parents, but yet are just as joyfully sexual and in love as anyone else was quite refreshing. On TV, sex is usually reserved for the young and lithe.
Also, when it's revealed that the heavy-makeup-wearing, provocatively- dressed Nancy is really a lesbian, they contrasted that with the fact that straight Jackie was the one who wore flannel and drove a truck, showing that you can't judge a book by it's cover. Leon, although rather persnickety, wasn't preening and promiscuous in the way most other TV shows portray gay male characters.
Another example is that Roseanne (the character) tells DJ that she is half-Jewish, showing for once that not all Jews are affluent doctors or lawyers, most of us are just regular folk like everyone else.
Much has been said about the final season being "silly" or "unrealistic." I, myself, wondered what was going on, but the final episode made it all worthwhile. The revelation that the fantastic events of the past year where all in Roseanne's head, a way for her to escape her bleak reality, was touching. I am man enough to admit I shed a tear at the end of that episode.
"Roseanne" is all-around brilliant. Fantastic writing, acting and direction. Hopefully this show will remain in syndication for many years to come...and hopefully will make it's way to DVD.

A true and hilarious slice of life I must say that "Roseanne" has got to be by far one of my all-time favorite television sitcoms. I watched it for its entire run on ABC from 1988 to 1997, and still watch it in reruns on Nick at Nite. It was a welcome departure from most family sitcoms of the time (i.e. Full House, Family Matters, The Cosby Show). While interesting and diverse (I watched them sometimes), these shows often lacked the portrayal of the typically less than ideal realities of everyday life. "Roseanne" was different in that it showed, to the extent possible, people as they really are. It proved that working class people and families can make you laugh. They don't have to be rich, blond, and thin to be funny.
Roseanne Barr plays Roseanne Conner, a hard-working, sarcastic, but lovable wife and mother who is never short of "telling it like it is." John Goodman plays her husband Dan Conner, tough but lovable to mom and the kids. Oldest daughter Becky is the most rebellious and loves boys. Middle child Darlene is the tomboy, and takes after Roseanne with her sarcastic wit. Youngest child DJ takes after his father. Along for the ride is Roseanne's younger unmarried sister, Jackie, played by Laurie Metcalf. While intelligent and well-meaning like Roseanne, Jackie is much more naive and gullible. Other characters include Crystal, who later marries Dan's father Ed. Roseanne and Jackie's mother Bev, the domineering, passive-aggressive guru, is a recurring character. Among many others, we also have Becky's boyfriend and later husband Mark, Darlene's boyfriend David, friend Nancy (Sandra Bernhard), and Roseanne's boss at the restaurant, Leon (Martin Mull). Jackie later gives birth to son Andy, and Roseanne and Dan have a son Jerry.
Over the years, Roseanne and Dan face many challenges that keep them on their toes. They bounce from one job to another before landing modest steady employment. Becky challenges them the most, especially when it comes to Mark. Darlene is similar when it comes to David. DJ keeps somewhat in the background in the early years, but becomes more prominent as he gets older. Jackie has many different careers and relationships, sometimes bizarre. The Conners lose more than they win, but through it all they "get by." This is why I enjoyed the show so much. It showed that life does not always go the way we want it to, unlike a lot of other shows, and we have to deal with this. But somehow we get by too!
While I did not enjoy the last season as much (it was too far removed from it's original objective), it still ranks up there on my list of favorites. People of all races, ethnicities, ability levels, creeds, sizes, orientations, etc are just like us. This is how life is and truly should be!

One of the greatest shows on TV for a few years! Roseanne was one of the funniest, most original programs on television for a long time. I recommend avoiding the last few years of the show; they're so maudlin and idiotic that they seem more like a (boring/stupid/insulting--take your pick!)parody of themselves than anything else. The actors sleepwalk through their lines as if they're fully aware of how stupid and poorly-written they are, and the last episode is ironically one of the WORST half-hours on TV! (Sort of mirrors the downfall of the Simpsons, really--why can't these wonderful shows just quit while they're ahead?) For a long time, Roseanne was a sweet and realistic portrayal of many American families--fraught with strife and struggle but loving all the same.
