Not the most overrated, but close. This show would have tanked if not for John Goodman in the early years. He was the best actor on the show. Later Sarah Gilbert stole the show in this comedy, and was the main reason I continued to watch the show. Towards the end, the show seemed forced on us and at times, like the producers didn't have what it took to make a quality show.

The one This is the definite sitcom out there. Roseanne is one of the most credible tv characters ever. The entire family is credible if you look twice. Worth a special mention are Sara Gilbert as Darlene the more human of the two sisters. She may be mean and sinister at times but she does it upfront and not behind the backs of her parents as her sister Becky does. Great as always: John Goodman. Definitely a 10.

Original and hilarious A highly original take on the tired genre of the American family sitcom. At the time, the gold standard was "The Cosby Show" and "Family Ties", both upper-middle class and completely unrealistic. "Roseanne" was the first high-quality sitcom since the Honeymooners to focus on working-class families. This show took the idea of the 80s family show and stood it on its ear.
It took risks and chances that other shows were afraid to take, discussing subjects like homosexuality, child abuse, alcoholism, and teenage sexuality not just as one-show ideas, but as recurring themes. And though it wasn't successful all of the time, most of the time it was hilarious. I'd rather see a show take tremendous risks and fail than take the safe course and receive middling success.
The last couple of seasons were less than stellar, and the very last season was terrible and marked the first time that Roseanne hadn't been in the top 10 (or top 20) in the ratings consistently since it started. But overall, it had the guts to change its situation every once in a while (Roseanne had, I think, ten separate jobs in nine years) to shake things up and add new elements.

Excellent show! This is probably one of my favorite show ever! John Goodman is funny as hell! Sarah Chalke is beautiful! I was so glad to see her return for season 9 after Lecy Goranson came and stole her part for season 8. Roseanne Barr is funny! Lecy Goranson, I'm sorry to say, is an awful actress. She cannot act! (Maybe that's why she was only in 2 movies and Sarah Chalke was in over 20!) Every word that came out of her mouth was "Mother!" or "Shut up, Darlene!" Sarah Chalke, on the other hand, is really good! She can act out just about anything.
This show's actors made this one of the funniest show ever! I really liked some of the late episodes, like the one where Dan's mom comes out of the hospital, or the one where the family is held hostage on a train. Roseanne was always good at making jokes and putting people on the spot. Darlene Conner is funny too. I really enjoyed seeing her make fun of Becky in the early episodes. I know Roseanne has had some incidents in the past, but when you see how great she is in the show, they will all be overlooked. I give this show a 10!

The best television show ever. Like the subject says, this is definitely the best show ever, it was realistic and not as sappy and solving the problem in 30 minutes time like the other sitcoms of it's time. This is also the funniest show ever. Literally every episode made me laugh. This is a true comedy. Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert are the funniest cast members, one of my favorite scenes in the shows history is when Jackie has to call Auntie Barbara and tell her that their dad has died and she's deaf and all and has to start screaming, I was rollin'!! Also the scene where Darlene and Jackie are hinting to Roseanne that DJ is in the bathroom like an hour at a time meaning he's either really good at "it" or really bad at "it." I have recorded all 9 seasons and it took up 13 tapes. It was worth it and I still watch the reruns on TBS at 6 p.m. and I'll keep watching them as long as TBS keeps playing them. ROSEANNE 4-ever

Without a doubt the funniest TV show ever! As the subject says, "Roseanne" is the funniest TV show ever. Every episode, literally, makes me laugh. Every one! The writing for this show was one of the best ever. I'm glad it lasted as long as it did (9 great seasons, which I might add I was lucky enough to get all on tape). Sure the last seasons aren't as good and funny as the first but they are still hilarious. Like just recently on TBS they showed an episode from about season 7 or 8 where Roseanne and Jackie get jobs at this Supermarket giving out free samples and it becomes competitive to Roseanne when Jackie starts selling more of her product and they start throwing food at each other and dumping milk and dish detergent on each other. That was hilarious. My favorite scene by far is from about season 4 or 5 when Roseanne and Jackie's father die and Jackie is told to call and tell Auntie Barbara about the death and Auntie Barbara is deaf and Jackie ends up screaming.. "Dad's Dead!" "Dad's Not With Us Anymore!" several times. I never laughed so hard in my life. That's a classic scene. Or another one in which Roseanne and Dan go out for one last evening together before the baby is born and Jackie comes over with a Monopoly game and in the end credits she's playing by herself talkin' trash about the Dog that lands on Park Place. Laurie Metcalf is hilarious, as was Sara Gilbert and John Goodman. Anyway, if you ever get the chance to see this show it's on TBS at 6:00 p.m. eastern time and I really recommend you see it if you haven't already when it was on ABC because it is hilarious and not many shows and movies can make me laugh like "Roseanne" did.

The best TV sitcom. This was one of my favorite sitcoms ever. But, I don't think Roseanne herself was very funny. It was mostly Jackie that said all the funny things. Becky, played by both Sarah Chalke and Alicia Goranson, was the most realistic character on the show. (I prefer Sarah Chalke, but Goranson is still really good!.) Thanks to FOX and TBS you can catch the re-runs every weekday/night.

The best show ever!!!!! I love this show, and now to this day it still has me giggling and admiring the acting abilities. Roseanne was great, first of all i thought she was annoying but soon she grew on me and now i'm totally used to her and she's great! She didn't play the perfect mother but is there in real life a perfect mother? Dan was awesome! I always took his side if there was an argument, don't know why but i did. He was a good dad on the show and will be famous for the role for a long time. Becky - the eldest daughter - she was great too. I loved the eps about her when she was 13/14 because i like to see how she deals with problems at that age and it helps me (i'm 14) both Lecy Goranson and Sarah Chalke were great and I couldn't pick a favourite. Darlene was my fave next to Mark. She was just like me, sarcastic and stuff, she was best character after Mark and always will be. DJ was never a fave but his cute little opinions in series 1 were how little boys that age saw things. And when he 'grew up' he got better. The other characters were totally cool too, from Jackie to Leon.
Although some characters annoyed me (Leon and Bev esp.) other's I loved like Mark played by Glenn Quinn, and David who was his on-screen younger brother. All together this show was 'da bomb!'

My favorite white trash show. And I mean that as a high compliment, after all I think that's what they were going for. A great show that I love and will continue to love even in reruns, Roseanne has really set the bar high for any following 'white trash' shows that may come along. Even the supporting characters over the years are great, such as Shelley Winters etc. A great show!

the best This is one of my favorite shows. I like it very much. I give it 10/10. It shows what really happens in life. It's not like the Brady Bunch where everything is perfect and always is solved. Roseanne plays a good character. My favorite is Roseanne and Darlene. This show reminds me of My sister. My sister is just like Roseanne.

PERFECT INSIGHT TO THE EVERDAY FAMILY!! I think ROSEANNE is one the best show ever made about struggling working-class families in America. Because in reality, most of us are not rich! I applaud Roseanne for being strong. She stands up for what she believes and never allows people to talk down to her. Roseanne's performance is one of the funniest of any comedienne in years! And Laurie Metcalf (as Jackie) is her match!! Jackie deserves kudos (not to mention the 3 consecutive Emmys she recieved for Outstanding Supporting ACtress in a COmedy Series). Her role as the paranoid younger sister of ROseanne Conner is a CLASS ACT! And John Goodman (as Dan) is one in a million!! And who can ever forget Darlene!! The official REBEL child!! Bravo to all involved for creating one of the best sitcoms ever made!! LONG LIVE ROSEANNE!!!!

Family Show of the 90s When this show first debuted in 1988, I thought it was one of the worst shows to debut on TV back then. The kids were bratty, Roseanne's voice was aggravating-the list seemed to go on. A few years later, when the reruns started airing in the late afternoon, I really started appreciating the show for what it was: A family just trying to get by, and solve the problems that come up in everyday life. Along with this, Roseanne's witty "one-liners", and "off-the-cuff" humour, really made this show special. This show dissappeared for a couple of years here in Toronto, but it has been picked up again and is still as funny as it was when it first aired.

Great Show This is one of the funniest shows on television. I watch it everyday on TBS. The setting is a very realistic one. Roseanne is a very funny woman. Some people dislike her voice, but it adds to the character. I also like the second Becky better, although I'm sure many people would disagree. Did anyone else notice that in the pilot episode, a different actor played D.J.? So if you're in the mood to watch something funny, watch Roseanne.

Real The Connor family is 'real.' I cannot begin to express how important this is. Most TV families are just that--TV families. The Connor family, however, makes you believe it is a real American family. Their problems don't go away at the end of every episode, they have bills. They look real, not like some beautiful walking wax figures.
Oh yes, and witty writing helps.
