The Statue - D This is probably the most season-9-esque episode from the classic years. The character of Ray being in this episode especially reminds me of season 9, where many secondary characters are completely one-dimensional and have a certain quirk, and it just doesn't ring true. Why the hell would anyone talk like Ray? Is this supposed to be funny? Rava is only slightly amusing. Other than that, this episode is still pretty uninspired. I hated the sitcommy way Jerry and Elaine would argue, then stop when Ray checked on them, then start; you'd expect stronger stuff from Seinfeld. The story, imo, is unengaging until the very end when Kramer pretends to be a cop. Other than the ending, this episode can only rely on a few funny exchanges, the most memorable being when George uses the word "anathema" in everyday conversation and Jerry calls him on it. Worst of season 2.

The Phone Message - C+ Meh. Not much of anything too good in this episode. The only quality scene was George and Jerry outside his girlfriend's apartment to them leaving and her saying she loved the "joke."

The Apartment - B- Not one of my most favorite eps from the season, but it did have it's moments. Jerry getting pissed at Kramer for convincing Elaine to borrow the money, Jerry getting annoyed by the idea of the "pop-in." But I did like this episode more after repeated viewings.

The Stranded - B I thought the troubles Elaine and Jerry were having during the episode is what really brought out information on who these people really are. "How old are you?" "30." Although the ending is a little sour, the party scenes were well done as was them waiting for Kramer.

The Statue - A- I thought this was one of the most entertaining episodes of the season. The "coincidences" conversation was good as well as the statue plot involving George. My favorite scene would have to be Jerry and Ray in Monk's with George secretly listening.

The Phone Message - C+ Meh. Not much of anything too good in this episode. The only quality scene was George and Jerry outside his girlfriend's apartment to them leaving and her saying she loved the "joke." The Phone message is the best episode of the first two seasons. This is George's first great episode, where he really becomes George, the planning Jerry and George do outside the apartment then the way they execute the plan inside the apartment is great, as is George after the date, leaving the awful message and freaking out about it. Also great is the way Kramer walks in-- "Cotton dockers" and she feels like everyone knows she likes the commercial. This is all really funny stuff.

The Heart Attack - B It's hard choosing a grade this because this is very up-and-down. Overall it's more good than bad. I guess for this review I'll just list pros and cons.
Pros:
-George finding a mistake in the bill while having a heart attack
-Jerry and Elaine's reactions to George when having a heart attack, Jerry suffocating George
-The performance of the guy who plays the holistic healer
-"Jerk off" being in a Seinfeld episode
-"My name is Bob!"
Meh:
-People interpreting Seinfeld's note
-Julia's story
Cons:
-The whole holistic healer scene; humor based on wackiness in Seinfeld doesn't work for me even if it's pretty funny
-George turning purple. Horrible scene.

The Heart Attack - A+ - A top 10 episode . Everything in this ep is either gold or close to it. [*]Jerry and Elaine blowing off George's heart attack claim. [*]Jerry trying to decipher the note. [*]Jerry suffocating George with a pillow. [*]Elaine's tongue encounter with the doctor. [*]Kramer convincing George to go to Eckman. [*]The whole holistic healer scene. "And you're not a doctor, but you play one in real life."
Best quote:
QUOTE Elaine: Hi, George. How are ya feeling? Is anybody getting your apartment?

I agree - the hollistic scene was stupid, Seinfeld should rely on its main characters for humor, not stupid guest stars.
And george turning purple doesn't work-- I'm shocked this even got through. LD and others must have been out of ideas.
And what about the ambulance crashing? Talk about random and out of place. CLEARLY they writers were just looking for a way to end the scene.

The Revenge - A This is hilarious throughout and nearly flawless. I really enjoy the dual revenge stories; I don't remember any other episodes with two or more unconnected stories that follow a theme, but it's clever and fun. But I think the Kramer-and-cement scene is a little overrated as his physical comedy wasn't as funny and developed as it would become, but that's forgivable. If I had to choose a specific episode of when the "classic period" of Seinfeld began, this would be it.

The Deal - A+ Obviously a classic episode. Even with its extra-long scenes, this episode doesn't feel badly paced at any time to me. George in his "details" scene is one of those moments that just convinces me he's the best TV character ever. (first A+ btw)

I don't think there's one episode in season 2 that deserves an outright A. Everyone knows the show was still coming into its own at that point and working out the kinks- evey episode has flaws. MAYBE I'd give the phone message an A-, but thats it- the rest are B+ and below.

There's only a few A+'s in the whole series. Looking at an episode list, I'd give them to The Deal, The Boyfriend, The Airport, The Outing, The Opposite and The Label Maker, and a couple others are on the border line.
As for giving out too many A's, keep in mind this is Seinfeld. It's a great show. Naturally, the 2nd-best show ever (imo) is going to get good grades overall. I also think season 2 is a bit underrated. I think I've said it before, but it's just very up and down, not consistently below average. Plus I don't let things that couldn't affect my enjoyment of an episode at all affect my grade (example: The Deal ending with Jerry and Elaine together still).
Having said all that, you've convinced me that my grade for The Ex-Girlfriend is too high. Maybe an A- or B+ is right. I'm certain about my other grades, though. I shouldn't have to explain that I love a few season 2 episodes, but here we are.

Hmmm. The deal is not a winner in my book, I've already explained why. The boyfriend I would describe as a "borderline" episode, to use your term. I'd agree about the Outing, it's certainly my all-time favorite episode and I maintain the funniest episode.

the opposite it overrated, as is the marine biologist from the same season. The the premise of george benefiting from doing the opposite of his instincts I'd say is golden, however I don't like how it affected the others, especially Jerry. His "everything evens out for me" notion just seemed stretching it a bit too much, espcecially when he talked about it to Elaine at the end. "You were up, he was down, now he's up and you're down. See how everything evens out for me?" Sorry, that makes too much sense for an adult TV show, seems like something a 6th grader would come up with and think is hilarious. And Kramer is almost nonexistent in this episode, with a gimmick appearance on regis and kathie lee because its the season finale. I can just see the NBC Promo: "Don't miss the season finale of Seinfeld, where Kramer appears on Regis and Kathie Lee!" Sorry, didn't work for me.
